Richmond County Schools Calendar 2026-2027 | Printable PDF

If you are a parent, teacher, or student in the Richmond County School System in Augusta, Georgia, this page is your single source for every important date in the 2026–2027 school year. The Richmond County Schools Calendar 26-27 covers everything families ask about — the Richmond County Schools Calendar 26-27 first day of school, fall break, Thanksgiving, winter break, and the Richmond County Schools Calendar spring break 2027 dates.

Whether you need a Richmond County Schools Calendar 26-27 printable version for the fridge, a Richmond County Schools Calendar 2026-27 template for a classroom wall, or you are just trying to figure out when to book a flight, every confirmed date is listed below exactly as the district published it.

One thing worth knowing up front: Richmond County starts on two different days this year. Elementary students report first, and everyone else follows the next morning. That single detail trips up a lot of families every August, especially households with kids in both an elementary school and a middle or high school.

Parents bookmark this page because school dates move, work schedules do not, and it is a lot faster to check one clean list than to dig through a PDF on your phone at 6 a.m.

A quick note on the day count: the district does not print a running total on the calendar itself. The 180/179 figures above come from counting the scheduled student days between the first and last day, minus every published holiday and break. Georgia districts generally build to a 180-day school year, but if you need an exact number for legal, custody, or attendance reasons, call the district office and confirm.

A note on state testing: the approved calendar lists semester exams for December 14–18, 2026 and May 17–21, 2027, but it does not publish Georgia Milestones or other state assessment windows. Those are set separately and sent home by individual schools. Do not assume the semester exam weeks are the state testing weeks — ask your child’s school for its assessment schedule.

Calendars do change. Richmond County has amended its calendar mid-year before. Always double-check dates against the official district calendar at rcboe.org before booking travel, scheduling medical appointments, or making childcare arrangements.

It is a single-page, year-at-a-glance layout — the kind of thing that prints cleanly on one sheet and lives on the fridge all year. Print two: one for home, one for the grandparent or sitter who does pickup.

About Richmond County School System

The Richmond County School System serves Augusta and the south Richmond County communities of Hephzibah and Blythe, in Georgia. It is one of the larger districts in the state, with roughly 29,000 to 30,000 students across about 50 schools, from pre-kindergarten through grade 12.

Richmond County is best known for its magnet program. John S. Davidson Fine Arts, A.R. Johnson Health Science and Engineering, and C.T. Walker Traditional Magnet all draw students countywide, and the Cyber Academy of Excellence inside Richmond County Technical Career Magnet School trains high schoolers toward cybersecurity certifications. The district also runs a one-to-one device program called PowerUp, which is what makes its asynchronous learning days possible.

What Parents in Richmond County Should Know This Year

A few things in this calendar are genuinely unusual, and they are worth circling now.

Two different first days. Elementary students start Wednesday, August 5. Everyone else — K-8, magnet, middle, and high — starts Thursday, August 6. If you have a fifth grader and a seventh grader, that is two separate morning routines in the same week.

Spring break ends on a Monday. Break runs Monday, April 5 through Monday, April 12, and students return Tuesday, April 13. That extra Monday is easy to miss. Plenty of parents will send a kid to a locked building on April 12 because they assumed break ended the Friday before.

Two scheduled PowerUp days. October 8 and February 11 are built into the calendar as asynchronous learning days. Students are not in the building, but they are not off either — they log in from home and complete assignments in Canvas or Seesaw to be counted present. Arrange childcare, but also make sure the device is charged.

The fall stack in October. October 8, 9, 12, and 13 form a four-day run where no student is physically in school — one asynchronous day, one professional learning day, then a two-day fall break. Attach the weekend and that is a six-day stretch away from the classroom.

Thanksgiving is a full week. November 23–27 is off, not just the Thursday and Friday.

Summer school runs five days a week. June 2–30, 2027, closed for Juneteenth on June 18.

How Richmond County Compares to Neighboring Districts

Richmond County lands right in the middle of the CSRA pack. Neighboring Columbia County starts one day earlier, on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, and finishes on the same day Richmond does — Wednesday, May 26, 2027 — with an identical spring break of April 5–12 and an identical Thanksgiving week of November 23–27. If you have kids in both districts, or family across the county line, those breaks line up almost perfectly, which makes joint trips easy. Across the river in South Carolina, Aiken County Public Schools runs a modified year-round calendar and looks nothing like either: students there do not start until Thursday, August 20, 2026, take a long fall break from late September into October, break for spring from late March into April, and stay in school until Tuesday, June 8, 2027. So an Augusta family with a cousin in Aiken will find spring break overlapping only partially, and summer starting nearly two weeks apart.

Planning a Family Trip? Best Times to Travel in Richmond County

The two clear winners are winter break (December 23 through January 5 — two full weeks, plus the early release on December 22 to get a head start) and spring break (April 5 through April 12, with students back on April 13). Spring break in early April is the sweet spot for Georgia weather and beach trips before Gulf and Atlantic prices peak.

For a shorter getaway, the October 8–13 stretch is underrated. With the PowerUp day, the professional learning day, fall break, and the weekend, you get a long window in the cheapest travel month of the year — just remember the October 8 schoolwork has to get done, so pick a destination with reliable Wi-Fi or knock out the assignments the night before.

Thanksgiving week (November 23–27) is a full week off but the most expensive week to fly in America. If you are driving to see family, it is perfect. If you are flying, book by September.

School Closings History in Richmond County

Snow days are rare in Augusta, but ice is not. Richmond County has used weather closures in each of the last two winters, including asynchronous days in January 2025 and again in late January 2026 during a regional winter storm. In February 2026 the district went a step further and converted a scheduled April 3 asynchronous day into an in-person learning day to recover instructional time lost to spring weather — a good reminder that Richmond County will amend the calendar mid-year when it has to. Rather than closing outright, RCSS now leans on PowerUp Asynchronous Learning Days, so a bad-weather day usually means learning from home rather than a day added to the end of June.
