About us

PublicSchoolsCalendar.com is a free, independently run reference site that helps American families, teachers, and students find accurate school year information — without digging through dozens of confusing district websites.

We cover public school districts across all 50 states: start dates, end dates, holiday schedules, teacher workdays, parent-teacher conference dates, early dismissal days, and graduation timelines. Whether you need to know when spring break is in Broward County or when Chicago Public Schools go back after winter break, we have it in one place.

Why we built this site

School calendar information in the United States is fragmented. There is no central database. Each of the roughly 13,000 public school districts in the country publishes its own calendar — usually buried in a PDF on a hard-to-navigate district website. For a parent trying to quickly check if school is open on a given Friday, or a teacher planning ahead for the semester, that system is genuinely frustrating.

We built PublicSchoolsCalendar.com to solve that problem. Our researchers visit each district’s official website, download the published PDF calendar, and manually compile the key dates into a clean, readable format. Every page on this site cites its source and shows the date it was last verified, so you always know where the information came from and how current it is.

What we cover

Our current database includes school calendar pages for hundreds of public school districts across all 50 states, with new districts added regularly. For each district we publish:

  • First and last days of school for students and staff
  • All federal and state holidays observed by the district
  • Winter, spring, and Thanksgiving break dates
  • Teacher professional development and workday dates
  • Parent-teacher conference dates
  • Early release and early dismissal schedules
  • Graduation dates for seniors
  • Summer school start dates where available

We focus on the 2026–2027 academic year, with coverage of upcoming years added as districts release approved calendars.

How we verify our data

Every date on this site is sourced directly from official district calendars — not third-party feeds, not estimates. Our process for each district page is: locate the official district website, find the board-approved calendar PDF for the school year, manually extract all key dates, publish the page with a source link and last-verified date, and update the page within 48 hours whenever a district issues a calendar amendment.

We do not publish estimated or projected dates without clearly labeling them as such. If a district has not yet released its official calendar for an upcoming school year, we note that and update as soon as it becomes available.

Meet our lead researcher

Sarah Mitchell has spent the past five years researching public school schedules and academic calendars across the United States. A former elementary school teacher with eight years of classroom experience in Ohio and Georgia, Sarah understands firsthand how important — and how confusing — school calendar management can be for families and educators. She leads the research and verification process at PublicSchoolsCalendar.com, overseeing calendar sourcing, accuracy checks, and content updates across all 50 states.

Our editorial team includes researchers and education writers based across the United States who contribute district-level calendar pages, back-to-school guides, and informational articles covering the US public school system.

Who we write for

We write for three audiences. Parents who need to quickly find school dates to plan childcare, vacations, and family schedules. Teachers who want a reliable reference for academic milestones, marking periods, and professional development days. And students who are counting down to spring break, winter break, or the last day of school.

Our content is written in plain language — no education bureaucracy jargon, no corporate filler.
